GEOMAT® Closed Loop Overview

GEOMAT® closed loop main components:

  1. Aluminum framed, patented waste water filtration and containment system.
  2. Waste water pumping system options.
    • A- Compressed air operated (non surface penetrating).
    • B- Sump basin ejector (surface penetrating)
  3. Waste water filtering / recycling tank system.
  4. High pressure, low consumption pressure washer.

GEOMAT® closed loop function:

The closed loop GEOMAT® manages the large amounts of wastewater resulting from vehicle and other equipment washing by recycling and cleaning the wastewater, piping it back for reuse. A closed loop system requires the dirty water to be pumped out by a licensed hauler periodically.

GEOMAT® closed loop operation:

The car / truck is driven onto the standard 10' x 20' GEOMAT® surface. (Compressed air pump systems will need manual switch type activation, sump basin ejectors are automatic) It is then washed and rinsed using the pressure washer and industry accepted chemicals & procedures. Upon completion, it is driven off the wash area. (Compressed air pump systems can be equipped with an auto shut off timer).

GEOMAT® closed loop requirements:

For a standard GEOMAT® closed loop system the location will need three dedicated 20 amp power circuits.

  • one for the air compressor pump or sump basin pump system
  • one for the pressure washer
  • one for the interior upholstery vacuum (usually already in place)

A somewhat level surface (most inconsistency's can be field corrected). Over head protection from rain (to prevent introduction of unwanted water). Access for a recovery truck within 100' to run their suction hose.

Closed Loop / Hybrid Overview

The patent pending hybrid system empowers the benefits of the closed loop system while having the ability to discharge the recycled water to the sanitary sewer when it has become too dirty to use any more. A regular closed loop system would require the dirty water to be pumped out by a licensed hauler periodically. Both systems facilitate water conservation as well as real savings to your vehicle washing operations in terms of water bills.

GEOMAT® service and maintenance: (small variations with usage volume)

The patented GEOMAT® system is designed to contain and increase the longevity of the water being used. Do to over spray while washing and water being carried off the wash area by the car / truck. The tanks may need minimal replenishing from time to time. This is done by connecting a standard flexible hose to the provided port.

Filters are visually inspected daily for sediment and can be easily removed and cleaned.

Upon determining the water is no longer suitable for washing, the tanks will be pumped and cleaned by a licensed hauler, disposed of and manifested according to local and federal EPA guidelines. The tanks will then be refilled and ready to be used again.

The patented GEOMAT® filtering layers need to be cleaned annually (dependent on usage). This is done by a GEOMAT® technician and all residual waste and sediment is disposed and manifested according to local and federal EPA guidelines.

Advantages of a Closed Loop System

100% Closed-Loop Recycle System, also called a Non-Discharging/Closed-Loop Recycle System, is a total recycle system that recycles both wash water and rinse water with no discharge of wastewater.

GEOMAT® 100% closed-loop recycle systems are the preferred choice for many dischargers. These systems reduce or eliminate contaminated discharges to surface or ground water, or to Publicly Owned Treatment Works (POTWs). These systems require capital costs up front, purchasing and installation and shipping of the equipment. However, water conservation, along with the additional monetary benefits of cost savings associated with lowered water bills and sewer connection fees make these systems a wise investment choice. Water conservation is achieved by piping the wash water through the GEOMAT® system and reusing it. Therefore, there is no need to purify the wash water to meet drinking water or surface water quality standards. When the wash water reaches a certain level of contamination, it can be disposed of by using one of the alternatives discussed below.

Since the volume of wastewater to be disposed of is much less than in a non-recycling system, the cost associated with the discharge of the wastewater is also less. Some vehicle wash facilities report savings as high as 80% in water and sewer bills after implementing a recycle system. The length of time for a payback depends on local sewer and water rates, the purchase price of the recycling equipment and the average number of vehicles being cleaned per day. Some facilities report a payback after just a couple of months, while others take as long as two years. We can put together a cost saving spreadsheet for you.

There are additional benefits resulting from the implementation of recycle systems. Due to severe droughts, water restrictions are becoming common. Recycling and reusing are extremely beneficial for the environment because of the savings of large quantities of water. In addition, the business is also provided with a sense of security, in that it can continue operating even under drought-imposed water restrictions. Some of our GEOMAT® wash clients are even using recycling as a marketing tool.

In response to public awareness of the environmental issues, recycling is being presented as a way to save the environment, also helping with your company’s image without giving up the luxury of a clean car.

GEOMAT® closed loop recycling systems create rinse-quality water, which eliminates the need for any new fresh water except to compensate for drive-off and evaporation.

The important factor in all 100% closed-loop recycle systems is an awareness of maintenance and attention that will be needed to keep the system in balance.

As mentioned previously, 100% closed-loop recycle systems require periodic disposal of the wastewater. Two disposal options are available: discharge to a permitted Domestic Wastewater Treatment Facility, or contained and hauled by a licensed hauler.
